For starters, know a few things about beating the odds.
Flash back 20 years, I was battling a life-threatening illness in intensive care, with doctors giving me with a 30% chance of survival. This became one of my biggest, first-hand lessons in the power of mindset mastery.
Within the space of a couple of months I was out of hospital, and within little over a year had attained my Mastersโ Degree and used every cent in my bank account to launch a Gold Coast based recruitment business. I grew this business over six years (while navigating a divorce and the GFC), and subsequently received an offer to sell the business which was too good to refuse.
Next, I pivoted into a student mentoring role with one of Australia's leading universities, where, after a relatively short tenure, I was offered a promotion to manage the university's legal research centre.
In this role I had the privilege of co-authoring Australiaโs first guide to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). I didn't let the lack of any previous experience as an author hold me back!
I'm proud to say the result of this research and writing - โDiscover, a Disability Care Australia NDIS Help Guideโ - has since become an invaluable coaching resource for parents and carers of people with disability, on how to navigate the NDIS.
At the completion of this project, still feeling I had unfinished business in the arena of recruitment and human potential, I launched a recruitment and training business nationally.
Happily remarried by this time, I grew the business to a point where it sold profitably and was subsequently offered a role as a CEO in the medical industry. In this role I helped navigate the company through a number of change management challenges.
During the COVID shake up, I had time to reflect on my career and where I wanted to focus my passion and energy next.
I realised I'd been coaching people in one form or another, in every role of my career - and it was always the best part of my job.
Fast forward to today and here I am, an accredited Life Coach, living proof that insurmountable odds can be beaten, that your unique gifts can unlock any opportunity and that your heart will always show you the way.
